GIRARD — Former Police Chief Frank Bigowsky will not be wearing the uniform of a city patrolman after all — at least not until he is cleared for work by his doctor.
Bigowsky, who was demoted from chief to patrolman earlier this week, was scheduled to return to work at 6 a.m. from a paid administrative leave. Bigowsky did not report for that shift.
Dennis Haines, Bigowsky’s lawyer, said the former chief has been informed by his doctor to remain off of his feet for a period of time. Bigowsky did suffer a foot injury earlier this year and was off work for that injury.
Haines said the city was informed of the doctor’s suggestion.
“I don’t know when they were notified, but they were notified,” he said. “The hope is that he will take a few weeks and be back on his feet. Bigowsky is ready, willing and able to return to work when the doctor releases him.”

Immaturity at it's basic level.
A few weeks? Why not just take the rest of the year off because of your poor foot. Eight year-olds dude.
Eight Year old is how to describe the piece of trash Giard calls a Mayor. I have seen his kind before and will see him leave. Dont let the door hit you in the rear.
Only after he serves the term limit for mayors in Girard. How long has it been now, 8 years? Someone seems to like him.
By the way, your grade school response truly exposes your intellect and superior logic skills.
You were obviously scorn by the mayor at some point, or maybe you got cut from the little league team, in any event, you are entertaining. I hope your foot feels better.
You know, it has to be humiliating for him to get this demotion. Although calling off might seem immature, it's better than him going to work carrying a weapon with a chip on his shoulder or with a bad attitude. I can understand what would make a person NOT want to be there for the first day of his demotion, especially since the news media would be sure to be there to shoot plenty of film of him walking in and walking out.
Maybe everyone could just take a deep breath and think about how they would feel starting a demotion with cameras watching your every move.
Wake up people!! Anyone who has seen the Chief knows that he's had a cast on his foot for the last month and certainly wouldn't be able to patrol the streets. And I'm positive that rotten piece of trash Mayor knew it too. This is just an attempt by Melfi to humiliate Bigowsky.
So, as chief he doesn't have to walk, but as patrolman, he may have to walk to his patrol car?
Also, I was not aware that Melfi was the lone adjudicator of this municipal hearing against Bigowsky. I thought there were other memebers of the city government and council present when the facts were presented.
Also, Bigowsky was able to get to that class he was teaching just fine and able to receive the salary there while he was unable to make it in to work as a cop in Girard.
You see, there are always more facts than you people can or want to explore.
Keep reaching for the stars though.
He seems like a tool to me. Take your medicine or go get another job.
If you would look back before Jim Melfi was mayor, you would remember that the office of mayor was being run by past good ol'boys. Nothing more. There was a lot of crap left on the mayor's desk when Jim was elected. It has probably taken this long just to clear it all off. Mayor Melfi, like so many other mayors along the rust belt, have had to make hard and unpleasant decisions. I am sure that Mayor Melfi is not enjoying this type of attention regarding officer Bigowsky. They are both good men. But ultimately, the police chief answers to the mayor, the representative of the people of Girard. Also, the police chief should be setting the very best example to the people he protects as well as his officers. If it was okay for hime to collect two paychecks while on duty as the police chief, then how many other officers are being granted the same privileges. HONOR, INTEGRITY AND TRUST must be practiced at all times when serving the people.
