Unionforever shows his usual ignorance. Tim Ryan, in slightly more than 6 years in Congress, has brought more than $125 million to the 17th district, much of it to forge new opportunities for economic development. He's also shown what a politician in the Mahoning Valley can really be: smart, honest and looking to make opportunities for the future, not dwell in the past.

Fact is, Girard is broke, still in debt. This V&M project will bring about $500,000 in revenue a year to a city that doesn't have a nickel to put in this project (Youngstown is fronting all the money) and more than $1 million to the school district. Everyone wants Girard to get its fair share and they are, but Mr. Melfi either doesn't want this project or just doesn't know how to seal the deal. There isn't much time left. City council needs to step up and get it done.

Jim Melfi is a big disappointment. He worked hard to bring the city out of fiscal emergency but when it comes to working out one of the biggest economic development deal ever for the Valley he is acting like the old Valley politician who wants to put fences around his community. Look around Mr. Melfi. Lots of people unemployed and few prospects for new jobs that pay well. People in Girard need to let him know to get the deal done now and give us a chance for good jobs.

UnionForever can you read? The company says it wants the property to be in Youngstown. There's no choice here. All of the state and federal money has been funnelled through Ytown and work on the land must start soon. Youngstown is willing to take on the liability of the contaminated land. They are making the land deals. Girard is broke. They don't have a nickel to add to the development. The two sides have to come to an agreement that is mutually beneficial. And they will.

The fact is that the two cities would split all the income tax proceeds down the middle. The land would remain in the Girard school district and property tax on that land would continue to be paid to Girard, Trumbull County and the Girard school district. Right now it's a worthless piece of property, but with $20 million in improvements from stimulus funds and 500 additional high-paying jobs, would net Girard hundreds of thousands of dollars in revenue per year. It's a no brainer and it's about collaboration. That's what we need in this Valley to survive not communities that just want to build fences around themselves.

Traficant was nothing but a two-bit greedy egomaniac. He made this area a laughingstock. We've spent years trying to get over Traficant by working to change our image. We finally have young, dynamic political leaders who are working to make the Valley a great place to locate a business again. All Traficant cared about, in the end, was himself. He's old news. The Valley has long since passed him by.

Traficant made this area a laughing stock and added to our negative image. He stood for no one but himself. He was a greedy egomaniac. This area was blessed when he was convicted. Now the Valley's image is improving, we have young, energetic leaders representing this area and we are reinventing ourselves for our future and that of our children. Traficant is old news and hopefully will just fade away.

Is YSU on another planet? 9 percent over two years plus increases in other benefits? Does YSU think they are immune from the economy and budget cuts coming from Columbus?
It's unreal what's going on in the public sector?

It's about time a streamlined court system was seriously considered for Mahoning County. Why can't our leaders, including the judges, put aside their self-interests and work for a more effective and efficient court system that cuts costs and improves service. Very disappointed in the attitude of Judge Kobly and others. She is better than that.

People are kidding themselves about the pit bull breed. Our son had a mixed dog that included some pit bull.. Nicest dog you'd ever want to have. Very loving ------ except we found, around kids. He bit two kids and we had to put her down. These dogs have mouths that invite a disaster and we were very lucky our grandchild wasn't severely deformed. Anyone that decides on owning a pit bull or mixed should know they are inviting possible disaster.
