It's disappointing the Voinovich has to resort to putting down Obama with this Socialist name calling. He's better than that, at least I thought he was. I think the man is out of touch and will have a hard time winning re-election. And by the way, the Europeans have embraced some aspects of Socialism and are pretty happy with it, especially the universal health care. Their standard of living is pretty good and having been in Europe, they seem pretty happy and are perplexed that we view Socialism with such disdain.

Incorpation will be very expensive for Boardman and mean higher taxes for Boardman residents. Why not look at ways for Boardman and Youngstown to work together for the good of both communities. It's called collaboration. Akron has done it successfully with its suburbs. The Akron area is prospering. The townships there have benfited from JEDDS and are actually asking the city for other ways to collaborate. Boardman and Austintown should be looking for the best deals for economic development in working with the city. There's a saying, "A rising tide lifts all boats." Let's get with it and start working together rather than the same old "us vs. them," which is preventing progress in this area.

The whole idea of JEDDS is to raise money to further economic development. That's what Youngstown is proposing: for communities to work together to lift up the entire area. Youngstown is getting a bad rap on the LIberty JEDDS. Liberty approached the city about doing a JEDD and not the other way around. This area will never grow unless communities start working together. And it does work. Just check out what's been going on in the Akron area. There is economic growth there because of JEDDS and other factors mostly evolving around collaboration among communities.

If anyone wants to look at the success of communities working together just take a short trip to Akron where JEDDS are working for both the city and its neighboring townships and cities. Their economy is growing and the townships are singing the praises of Akron and its mayor. Akron is one of the few areas of Ohio that is seeing growth. Austintown, Boardman and the city need to start a dialogue for a JEDD program that works for all three communities and boosts jobs for our area. Enough with the negative. We can't afford it anymore.

Jim Traficant deserves what he has received. Jail time for greed, arrogance and selfishness. He saddled this community with another black mark on its image and it's taking us years to overcome it. Hopefully, when he is out of jail, he will move to another area and get on with his life.

Mr. Stephans' comments are right on target. Austintown and Boardman need look at reality and stop building fences around their communities. The blight from Youngstown is seeping into both of their communities and will continue unless Youngstown improves and the communities start working together. They need to dialogue on solutions that are mutually beneficial to all communities. The "us" versus "them" mentality has to stop.
