OSU Extension office offers Spring Garden Workshop
Ohio State University Master Gardener Volunteers of Mahoning / Columbiana counties will host its annual Spring Garden Workshop 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. April 12.
This workshop provides new learning opportunities for all, ranging from new gardeners to long-timers with a keen interest in learning and improving.
The theme of this workshop is “Gardening That Works for You.”
Besides knowledgeable keynote and capnote speakers, the workshop includes three breakout sessions with three choices each, a choice of a make-and-take project, question and answer periods, handouts, an extension grounds teaching walk-about and access to OSU Educators and MGVs.
Included this year will be the Plant and Pest Clinic table, allowing you to learn more about this highly valued Extension Office service, so bring your questions and be prepared to get excited about the 2025 gardening season.
There will be a delicious hot buffet lunch and great refreshments all day that ensure you will be well-fed and entertained.
Finally, before you leave, lucky participants will have a chance to win door prizes, including flower arrangements, pruners, garden accessories and coupons to attend several other future events.
Registration opens at 9 a.m. and the workshop presentations commence promptly at 9:30 a.m. at the OSU Extension Office
at 490 S. Broad St. in Canfield, with parking on the premises.
The office is across the street from the Canfield Fairgrounds.
Reservations are limited and participants choose between optional sessions at the time of reservations. Please make your reservation early for your best choice.
Our morning keynote speaker will be Sabrina Schirtzinger, extension educator, agriculture and natural resources — Knox County, Ohio. Her presentation, “Easiest Cut Flowers for Beginners,” will teach which flower varieties are easiest to grow, maintain and provide season-long color.
The afternoon capnote speaker will be Zack Felger, Mahoning County Soil and Water District outreach and education specialist. His topic will address “Soaking It In: Stormwater Solutions for Sustainable Landscapes,” introducing rain gardens, permeable pavements, and green infrastructure to transform landscapes and turn impervious surfaces into eco-friendly, water-absorbing systems.
