Girard church recognizes pastor for 35-year career

Pastor Burl Jernigan, left, who served the past 15 years as pastor of Girard First Baptist Church, was recognized March 30 for his 35-year career in ministry. He was given a special plaque with the bulletin of his last service March 30, which was presented by church member Rick Warmouth.
GIRARD — For the past 35 years, the Rev. Burl Jernigan has been a minister sharing the message of the Lord with different congregations.
His final congregation recognized him with a celebration March 30 at Girard First Baptist Church, where has served for the past 14 years.
Jernigan, who is retiring, said his last worship service followed by a luncheon in his honor.
Church member Rick Warmouth presented Jernigan a special plaque with a copy of the last church bulletin under his leadership.
He said he has known Jernigan for many years and he is deserving of his retirement.
The congregation presented Jernigan with several gifts.
Church member John Reddinger said many members of the church have good memories of Jerningan.
“We are all here to show our love for our pastor,” he said.
Jernigan said he enjoyed his time at the Girard church and being part of the community. He also served as a minister in Boardman.
Jernigan said he plans to enjoy his retirement with his wife Pam, and he plans to start a faith-based podcast,
While in Girard, Jernigan was a member of the Girard Ministerial Association, taking part in various community events such as community vacation Bible school and Advent and Lenten services.
