MetroParks to present ‘Bug Day’ at Ford Nature Center
Mill Creek MetroParks presents “Bug Day” from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Ford Nature Center, 840 Old Furnace Road, Youngstown.
The family-friendly event will include live bug exhibits, including “The BugMan,” Mark Berman, from Columbus.
Also featured will be author Orin McMonigle, a butterfly exhibit by Katie Shipka and an appearance by local “Bee-Manager” Don Kovach. Activities include gentle and respectful bug-catching and release, bug crafts, a bug tattoo station and a “Bad Bug” Forest Walk.

Warren library hosts ‘lost treasures’ program Tuesday
“Legends & Lost Treasures” is the topic of a program at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren.
Author Wendy Koile has discovered a wealth of lost treasure tales in Ohio, from misplaced spoils of war to gold hoards in a poor farmer’s field.
She’ll share stories about the hiders and searchers as well as the clues that lead to treasure.
The program is free. Copies of Koile’s books, including “Legends and Lost Treasure of Northern Ohio,” will be available for purchase and signing.
‘Birthday Party’ auditions scheduled for 2 sessions
Selah Dessert Theater will have auditions for Harold Pinter’s “The Birthday Party” from 2 to 6 p.m. July 28 and 4 to 8 p.m. July 29 at Selah Restaurant, 130 S. Bridge St., Struthers.
Cast requirements are a woman ages 55 to 60, a woman ages 25 to 30, two men ages 50 to 60 and two men ages 30 to 40.
It will be directed by Mary R. Lynn and will open Nov. 7 for a three-weekend run.

MVHS event to explore history of Valley’s nightlife
The Mahoning Valley Historical Society will host a History to Go event Aug. 22 at Cedars West End, 706 Steel St., Youngstown.
“History on Tap” will look at the history of drink and nightlife in the Mahoning Valley.
Tickets are $35 and include a taco bar with all the fixings, dessert and the program.

Noon in the Park returns to Warren
Strums & Drums will perform Friday at downtown Warren’s Courthouse Square gazebo for the first of four July Noon in the Park concerts.
The series, which is presented by the Fine Arts Council of Trumbull County, also features Night Breeze on July 12, Paul Sheehan on July 19 and students from the Oakland Center for the Arts Kids First Theatre Initiative on July 26.
Performances run from noon to 2 p.m. Admission is free. Attendees are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket for sitting and to support downtown restaurants and eateries with the lunchtime series.
Butler offers training for docents
Docent training classes will start in September at the Butler Institute of American Art, 524 Wick Ave., Youngstown.
Docents are trained museum volunteers who offer teaching, understanding and appreciation of art through guided tours of the permanent collection. They provide valuable support to the museum and help the public understand the importance of the museum’s collection.
