Ursuline High stages ‘Clue’

The Ursuline High School Theatre Department will present “Clue” this weekend in the Deibel-Morley Arts Center on the Ursuline campus, 750 Wick Ave., Youngstown.

The classic board game is brought to life in “Clue.” Six guests are invited to a dinner party thrown by an anonymous host. What follows is a madcap, slapstick evening full of murder, mystery and laughs as they seek to puzzle out the culprit amongst criminals.

Show times are 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for children and senior citizens and $8 for current Ursuline students. Tickets can be purchased in advance online at cur8.com/projects/ursuline.

JCC hosts holiday documentary screening

The Youngstown Area Jewish Film Festival presents “Dreaming of a Jewish Christmas” at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown, 505 Gypsy Lane.

The documentary tells the story of the many Jewish composers who wrote some of the most popular Christmas songs, from “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” to “White Christmas.

The cost is $18 and includes a vegetarian Chinese meal. Those attending are encouraged to wear a favorite holiday sweater for a chance to win a door prize. The deadline to register is today at jccyoungstown.org/adultprograms.

Friendly Squares plan dinner dance

The Friendly Squares will have its Christmas Dinner Dance on Saturday at the Niles SCOPE Center, 14 E. State St.

Dinner will start at 6:30 p.m., and those planning to attend should RSVP by calling 330-506-3370. Square dancing will follow from 7:30 to 10 p.m. with Gene Hammond and Neil Harner as the callers and Frankie Hammond cuing the line dances. It will be a High / Low dance alternating tips for new dancers currently taking lessons with tips for more experienced dancers.

Admission is a $7 donation at the door

McGuffey series ends year with music

Dana School of Music students will perform for the William Holmes McGuffey Historical Society’s next Memories of a Lifetime program.

A variety of music, including some holiday songs, will be played by Luke Whorten, an Austintown Fitch High School graduate and trumpet player who also is a member of the group No Funk No Justice, and Georgia Dale, a saxophonist who is a sophomore music education major from Pittsburgh.

The program starts at 10 a.m. Dec. 21 at Denny’s meeting room, 4020 Belmont Ave., Liberty. Admission is $10 for McGuffey members and $15 for non-members and includes refreshments. Reservations are suggested and can be made by calling 330-726-8277.

‘Annie’ opens in Conneaut

The musical “Annie” opens Friday for a two-weekend Run at Arlene’s Broadway on Buffalo, 236 Buffalo St., Conneaut.

The musical about an orphan invited to spend Christmas at the home of wealthy businessman Oliver Warbucks features a cast of about 30 performers on stage that grows to about 60 people involved when including the crew, support staff and orchestra.

Show times are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday through Dec. 22. Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for students. For more information, call 440-812-3343.

Butler hosts annual holiday arts and crafts show

The 53rd American Holiday Arts & Crafts Show takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m . Sunday at the Butler Institute of American Art, 524 Wick Ave., Youngstown.

American Holiday will feature nearly 60 artisans selling handcrafted jewelry, woodworking, little boxwood Christmas trees, glass, fine art, photography, chocolates and other goods. Bonfoey Company will do fine art appraisals from noon to 2 pm. Sunday on the Butler’s second floor balcony.

Admission is $5 with children ages 12 and younger admitted free.

A preview reception for Butler members is scheduled from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Friday.

TAG offers meet-the-artists events on Saturdays

Meet-the-artists events are planned on Saturdays during the run of the “Trees at the Gallery” holiday marketplace at Trumbull Art Gallery, 158 N. Park Ave. Warren.

This Saturday Brenda Armstrong, Dee Aston, Ron Krygowski, Stefani Tripoulas and Tulla Zambetis will meet visitors and talk about their work. Alice Chow, Matt Colla, Denise DiLellio, Amanda and Zane Moriarty, Wendi Patrick and Lynne Provance will be at TAG on Dec. 14, and Patty Cleary-Talstein, Veronique Gerard, Stephanie Sferra and Ralph Teets will be there both Saturdays.

Warren Historical Players present ‘Christmas Carol’

The Warren Historial Players will present “A Christmas Carol as Told by Charles Dickens” at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Harding Meeting Room at the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren.

The familiar holiday story will be presented in costume and in character with an approach to theater by local historians that combines education with entertainment.

Christ Episcopal hosts Ashtabula Brass Band

The Ashtabula Brass Band performs Saturday at Christ Episcopal Church, 2627 Atlantic St. NE, Warren.

Bo Violette of Niles has directed the band of about 28 musicians since 2016, and its “The Message of Christmas” concert will include such seasonal favorites as “Sleigh Ride,” “The Christmas Song,” “Carol of the Bells” and “Let It Snow.”

Admission for the 6 p.m. performance is free, although donations will be accepted to support the ensemble.

TCHS program will feature the Warren Baking Co.

The Trumbull County Historical Society will present a program on the history of the Warren Baking Co. as its next Sunday Speaker Series event. Patty Abbey, owner of the bakery, will talk about its legacy and serve some of its baked goods.

The program starts at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Museum of Science Fiction and Fantasy Arts building 410 Main Ave. SW, Warren. Admission is free, but donations to TCHS will be accepted.

Selah Dessert Theater sets ‘Adam and Eve’ auditions

Selah Dessert Theater will have auditions by appointment only for the romantic comedy “Searching for Eden: The Diaries of Adam and Eve.”

James Still’s play looks at Adam and Eve as youthful innocents and then revisits them as 40-something, modern-day business professionals. Cast requirements are one man and one woman able to play the characters at both ages.

Auditions are planned from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday and 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Selah Dessert Theater, 130 S. Bridge St., Struthers. To schedule an audition time, text director Mary Ruth Lynn at 330-554-2648.

Columbiana Holiday Home Tour set for weekend

The Columbiana Women’s Club will have its Holiday Home Tour 2024 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

This year’s self-guided tour includes five area homes with coffee, tea and cookies available at the club, 121 N. Main St., Columbiana.

Squeaky Wheel stage musical version of ‘Pageant’

The Squeaky Wheel Theater Company will stage “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever: The Musical” for a two-weekend run starting Friday at Columbiana Arts Theater, 5 N. Main St., Columbiana.

The musical was adapted by Jahnna Beecham and Malcolm Hillgartner from the play of the same name by Barbara Robinson. The play also was the inspiration for the film currently in theaters about acceptance, redemption and the spirit of the season as the reluctant director of a church’s Christmas pageant works with a cast filled with the notoriously unruly children from a local family.

Show times are 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday through Dec. 15. Tickets Range from $15 to $25 and are available online at www.atthecat.com.

Carols and Choirs coming to Buhl Park

A Carols and Choirs Community Holiday Concert starts at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in front of the casino at Buhl Farm Park, 715 Hazen Road, Hermitage, Pa.

Mercer High School choir will start the program, followed by the Shenango Area Youth Choir at 3 p.m. and a community sing-along from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m. Choirs from Kennedy Catholic, Reynolds, Wilmington, Grove City, Sharpsville, Sharon and Hickory schools will perform every half hour from 4:30 p.m. until the event ends at 8 p.m.

Admission is free with treats available for purchase from One Hot Cookie and Giavonna’s Coffee Truck.
