McGuffey society to show documentary

LIBERTY — The William Holmes McGuffey Historical Society will screen a documentary on its namesake for its next Memories of a Lifetime program.

McGuffey taught Americans how to read with the publication of his readers, first published in 1836 and still in print. The video presentation will recall McGuffey’s career, his impact, his local roots and the last remaining National Federation of McGuffey Societies’ chapter in the country. Local historian and author Richard S. Scarsella will be the narrator.

It will be shown at 10 a.m. Jan. 18 in the meeting room at Denny’s, 4020 Belmont Ave., Liberty. Admission is $10 for McGuffey members and $15 for non-members and includes the program, refreshments and live entertainment. Reservations are suggested and can be made by calling 330-726-8277.

Starting at $2.99/week.
