‘Oklahoma!’ auditions are set for Playhouse

Youngstown Playhouse will have three days of auditions for the musical “Oklahoma!” which will be staged in May.

Director Tyler Stouffer is seeking a large, energetic cast of performers ages 13 and older, and the show provides a range of opportunities for singers, dancers and / or actors.

Singers auditioning should prepare a minute-long cut of a golden age musical theater song with sheet music in their correct vocal key. An accompanist will be provided. The role of Aunt Eller already has been cast.

Those attending the dance audition should be prepared to move in standard musical theater and ballet styles.

The Rodgers and Hammerstein musical made its Broadway debut in 1943 and ran for five years. It’s enjoyed several Broadway revivals, and the most recent in 2019-20 won the Tony Award for best revival of a musical.

Singer auditions are scheduled from noon to 3 p.m. March 1 and 6 to 9 p.m. March 3 at the Playhouse, 600 Playhouse Lane.

Dance auditions are scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. March 4.
