Westminster gallery displays YSU grad’s art
A recent Youngstown State University graduate is displaying his work at Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pa.
“Reliquary” features ceramic sculpture by Mychal Vens, who earned his bachelor of fine arts degree in interdisciplinary studio art from YSU in 2024.
He has received numerous awards and honors, including the competitive Theresa Dupre Scholarship from Penland School of Craft and has been showcased in various publications, including Peters Valley’s “The Art of Craftsmanship” exhibition publication and Biafarin’s “People 2024” online publication.
Vens’ work is part of various public and private collections and has been exhibited at McDonough Museum of Art, the Stifel Fine Arts Center, Penland School of Craft, Peters Valley School of Craft, Bethany College and at Western Reserve Currents during the 57th annual conference of the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts.
“Reliquary” will be on display through March 21 at Foster Art Gallery, located in Patterson Hall.
A reception is planned from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. March 1, and Vens also will lead a figurative sculpture workshop for Westminster students in its handbuilding ceramics class in conjunction with the exhibition.
