Police investigate Friday shooting in Austintown
AUSTINTOWN — Police are seeking two vehicles in connection with gunshots reported along Idaho Road Friday morning.
Capt. Tom Collins said officers received calls just after 9 a.m. regarding gunfire in the 1200 block of Idaho. While en route to the area, a witness notified police that a black suspect vehicle was headed north on Idaho.
Collins said police found a few handgun ammunition shell casings at the scene and collected them to process as evidence.
Collins said they are looking for two vehicles and have likely identified one of them.
“We presume it was a road rage incident, and we have reason to believe they were involved in an accident seconds earlier and one exchanged gunfire with the other,” he said.
Collins said a verbal argument may have escalated to one driver ramming the other’s vehicle and it progressed to gunfire.
He said there was no property damage to any of the townhouses in the area. Austintown Local Schools was notified because of its proximity but Collins said there was no threat to the school.
