MASURY — A 65-year-old woman is dead and her brother is in the Trumbull County Jail following a shooting discovered Saturday morning.

Janice Zanolli, 65, was found at her house at 7938 Third St. with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head, according to Brookfield Police Chief Aaron M. Kasiewicz.

Police went to the house at 10:15 a.m. Saturday for a welfare check after a family member said Zanolli couldn’t be reached, Kasiewicz said.

In another room, officers found the victim’s brother, John Zanolli, 61, with a rifle to his head and threatening to commit suicide. He also lived at the house. After about 30 minutes of negotiations, officers were able to use tasers and remove the firearm from him after a brief struggle.

Several police departments and the Trumbull County Homicide Task Force still were on the scene late Saturday afternoon.

John Zanolli currently is in the Trumbull County Jail and will be charged with aggravated murder, according to Kasiewicz.
