#1 Cochran takes over Ford dealership in Austintown
AUSTINTOWN — A regional automotive dealership has added another first to its expanding portfolio since entering the Youngstown market two years ago.
Fred Martin Ford and Mercedes-Benz have joined Pittsburgh-based #1 Cochran. Rob Cochran, company CEO and chairman, announced the sale Wednesday in the Mercedes-Benz showroom.
#1 Cochran’s newest entries have been rebranded #1 Cochran Ford Youngstown and Mercedes-Benz of Youngstown. They represent the company’s 35th and 36th dealerships covering 20 brands.
“The reputation of the Fred Martin team we’re inheriting today we couldn’t be more thrilled to inherit,” Cochran said. “It’s an honor to carry on that legacy and build upon it.”
Two of #1 Cochran’s five Ford dealerships are in Mahoning County – Austintown and Boardman. Since purchasing Sweeney Chevrolet, Buick and GMC in Boardman in January 2023, #1 Cochran has acquired eight Valley dealerships.
“I think it’s going to give us a commanding presence and a commanding strategic advantage with Ford buyers,” Cochran said.
With its presence in Western Pennsylvania and Northeastern Ohio, #1 Cochran employs 1,900 team members. Of those, 85 are with the Austintown location, 4701 Mahoning Ave.
“This is the next chapter in the journey of a business that has always prioritized our customers and employees,” Fred Martin, company founder and president, said in a statement. “After more than five decades of service, I am proud to entrust my company to Rob and #1 Cochran knowing they will uphold the values and traditions that have been the cornerstone of our success.”
A sale price was not disclosed. Cochran said the deal occurred after six to seven months of negotiations.
He noted the company also plans to expand its number of collision centers. The nearest facility is in Columbiana. Cochran said Austintown and Boardman are among the options.
