Newest credit union offering assists community groups

Staff report

Warren-based Seven Seventeen Credit Union has established a program bolstering its mission to support the communities it serves.

During an announcement Tuesday, credit union officials said they are partnering with local organizations to launch an affinity credit card program.

The Greater Warren-Youngstown Urban League is the first to take part.

When an organization becomes a Seven Seventeen affinity credit card partner, it can provide a credit card to its supporters that is not only co-branded specifically for the organization but also provides financial support for its identified initiatives.

With every swipe and purchase, the credit union will donate 7.17 cents to that organization – all at no cost to its members.

“This is a tangible way to give back to our communities with everyday purchases and illustrates how banking local can send ripples of positive change throughout our community — with the simplicity of every swipe,” said John Demmler, Seven Seventeen president and CEO.

“When we bank with purpose, we build a stronger community.”

On top of the return to local organizations, the credit union’s affinity cards come with competitive rates, and a 7.17% introductory rate for all purchases and balance transfers for the first three months.

The credit union expects to announce additional partnerships soon.

“We are excited about this partnership with Seven Seventeen,” said Thomas Conley, president and CEO of the Greater Warren-Youngstown Urban League. “The proceeds from this program will support all Urban League initiatives, including programs for homeless youth, our homeless shelter and financial literacy, among others.”

Applications for the Greater Warren-Youngstown Urban League credit card will be available in early spring.

Organizations interested in developing a Seven Seventeen Credit Union partnership can contact Dorian Smith, senior vice president of business development, at 330-372-8333.

Starting at $2.99/week.
