US Gypsum Corp. to close Niles plant

NILES — United States Gypsum Corp. announced the permanent closure of its Phillips Manufacturing plant in Niles.
The company cited financial challenges and shifting market conditions in a news release.
The company called the decision difficult but necessary after a review of operations.
“Despite our best efforts, continuing at this location is no longer sustainable,” the company said in a statement.
The company said it will offer support to impacted workers.
“Our employees are our top priority at this time,” the company said. “We are working with them to ensure a smooth transition, including providing career transitioning by offering career transition workshops. Severance packages are being offered to all displaced employees.”
No additional details were immediately released.
