INSTALLATION SERVICE: The Greater Apostolic Faith Church, 3571 Tod Ave., Warren, will host an installation service at noon today for Pastor J. Laverne and Linda Tyson, pictured at right, who are completing their first year as pastor and first lady at the church.
CHURCH TO BE AUCTIONED: The former Richard Brown Memorial United Methodist Church on Youngstown’s North Side will be offered for online auction. The 4,400-square-foot stone building was built in 1905 and was designed by famed architect Charles Owsley. It is close to YSU across from Wick Park. The online bidding site is by ceonline.com and final bidding
and closing for the online auction will be 4 p.m.

RETURN TO CHURCH: St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Warren is planning for the return to church with a celebration Welcome Back to Church picnic with a tent on the lawn at the St. James site. It is scheduled 12:30 p.m. June 6.
WEDDING ANNIVERSARIES: The Office of Pro-Life, Marriage and Family Ministry of the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown is sponsoring a Wedding Anniversary Celebration to honor couples who are observing their 25th, 40th, 50th or over anniversaries in 2021. The event will be 2 p.m. June 13 at St. Columba Cathedral in Youngstown. Couples planning to attend this celebration need to register at their parish before May 13.
The celebration will include Mass with Bishop David Bonnar, renewal of marriage vows and a personalized certificate for each couple. Couples may opt to attend the Mass in person at St. Columba Cathedral or they may participate remotely via livestreaming on the diocesan website at www.doy.org. Limited spaces are available for couples at the cathedral.

SERVICE FOR MISCARRIED: The Catholic Diocese of Youngstown is hosting memorial services for miscarried or stillborn children on May 23 at locations in Youngstown. The Youngstown service will take place at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel at Calvary Cemetery, 248 Belle Vista Ave., Youngstown. Parents, family, grandparents and other relations of any child lost to miscarriage or stillbirth are encouraged to attend. MARRIAGE SEMINAR: The Greater Apostolic Faith Church in Warren, under the leadership of Bishop James Tyson, will host its first marriage seminar at 5:30 p.m. May 1.
Keynote speakers are Royce Dixon Sr. and Lisa Dixon from Chicago. The marriage seminar is free to the community, but couples who are interested should reserve their spot at 330-394-0922.
PROGRAM OFFERED: Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center, 2067 Evergreen Road, Villa Maria, Pa., will offer a virtual presentation via Zoom with Maureen Lauer-Gatta and Dena DeLuco, entitled “Virtual Women’s Retreat.” This opportunity will take place 7 p.m. May 7 to 4 p.m. May 8 in four sessions. The retreat’s focus is on specific practices and tools to help you show up more fully as who you are meant to be.

THEOLOGY PROGRAM: Those interested in a locally hosted, part-time, graduate-level program in theology and spirituality from a Catholic university can attend upcoming information sessions concerning the Loyola Institute for Ministry Extension Program of Loyola University New Orleans. Information will be shared and questions answered in a virtual meeting, 7 p.m. May 12 or 10 a.m. May 18, or in person 4 p.m. May 20 at St. Michael Church Hall, 300 N. Broad St., Canfield. Make a reservation to attend one of these sessions, whether online or in person, to learn about the program and application procedures.
Plans are that a local learning group will begin this fall.

MEMORIAL MASS: Bishop David Bonnar of the Diocese of Youngstown will celebrate a memorial Mass and dedicate the Homeless Jesus sculpture in memory of the Rev. Nicholas R. Shori at 9:30 a.m. and dedication of the sculpture at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday on the corner of West Wood and North Hazel streets. Tuesday is the fifth anniversary of Shori’s death. Upon his passing on April 20, 2016, Shori made a gift to the Diocese of Youngstown for the installation of the Homeless Jesus sculpture at the Diocesan central offices in Youngstown.
Shori served as the longtime pastor of St. Paul the Apostle Parish in New Middletown and as the diocesan Director of the Office of Evangelization, among many other positions and ministries throughout the Diocese of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley
In observance of safety protocols, the Mass may be attended by invitation only, however it also can be viewed online by visiting the diocesan website, DOY.org, and selecting Cathedral Live Stream from the Media dropdown box on the top menu. The outdoor sculpture dedication will be open for public observation.

Keynote speakers are Royce Dixon Sr. and Lisa Dixon, from Chicago, who will speak on how they divorced one another and experienced being in a dark place of denial, bargaining and regret by coming to the realization that there were deep hidden feelings internally and finding it difficult to express themselves through “Meaningful Constructive Dialogue” as well as “Words of Expression.” They have written the book, “Marriage, Divorce and Ultimately Remarrying.” Royce Dixon is the author of two books: “Blessed While Broken” and “Hidden Feelings.”
They will focus on sharing tools with other couples on the importance of using the “Reset Button” in their relationship before they contemplate divorce and going to the courthouse. The Dixons’ third book for children, titled “Jo Jo’s Learning Adventures,” targets improving reading skills, reading comprehension, conversation builder and learning how to gain independence.
The marriage seminar is free to the community but couples who are interested should RSVP, at 330-394-0922.
DIALOGUE SESSION: Jewish-Christian Dialogue will be 7 p.m. Wednesday virtually with speaker Henry Abramson, who is part of the six-part series on Jewish history “Bar Kochba to the Muslim Conquest.” Temple El Emeth in Liberty will send out the link before the event to participants.
BIBLE STUDY: Newton Falls Methodist churches will host Bible studies for the public. Pricetown and Newton Falls United Methodist churches have just begun a Bible study on the Holy Spirit with the guidance of the Rev. Dewayne Smith.
The Bible study gathers weekly at Pricetown United Methodist Church, 4640 Pritchard Ohltown Road, 10 a.m. Tuesdays or Newton Falls United Methodist Church, 336 Ridge Road, 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Bring a Bible if you have one. Masks and social-distancing guidelines will be followed.
BISHOP APPEAL: Catholics in the six-county diocese are being asked to participate in the 2021 Annual Bishop’s Appeal with the goal of $4 million. Over 50,000 individuals throughout the six-county diocese will benefit from services and ministries ranging from assistance with food, utilities and housing to faith formation, education, evangelization and social services. The Diocese of Youngstown encompasses Ashtabula, Columbiana, Mahoning, Portage, Stark, and Trumbull counties.
The majority of the funds generated through the appeal directly benefit the services provided by Catholic Charities.
The appeal will continue throughout the Easter season, concluding on Pentecost Sunday on May 23. For information, visit doy.org

NEW PASTOR INSTALLED: The new pastoral team of the Faith Fellowship Church of God, 388 E. Midlothian Blvd., Youngstown, was installed in February. The Rev. Stephen and Melissa Turner of Easley, S.C., where they were the youth pastoral team, were officially installed. The Turners have worked with youth for more than 10 years. Melissa is a mental health professional. The Turners come to Faith Fellowship after the death of pastor Jonathan Mitchell from complications of COVID-19.
