COMMUNITY NEWS: Model Aircraft Club sets fun fly
AIRCRAFT CLUB: The Mahoning County Model Aircraft Club will sponsor a radio-controlled aircraft fun fly, exhibition and swap meet 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Shaker Woods Field, 44337 County Line Road, Columbiana. The free event is family-themed and will include a 50-50 drawing and food. No drones are permitted. New members are welcome.
GATHERING PLACE: A Gathering Place event will be 11 a.m. today at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Canfield. Mahoning County Dog Warden Diane Fry is guest speaker. The free outreach event offers free social programs for senior citizens on the second Monday of each month. For information, call 330-533-3531.
LIBRARY CRAFT: The Lepper Library’s September Craft — Essential Oil Bathroom Spray — will be at 5 p.m. and again at 6 p.m. on Thursday. A blend of eucalyptus, spearmint, lemongrass and lavender essential oils will be used.
CLUB BANQUET: The Saxon Club is hosting its annual 300 Banquet and Reverse Raffle on Saturday at the Youngstown Saxon Club, 710 S.Meridian Road, Youngstown. Tickets are still available. Call 330-792-7973 for ticket Information.
WELSH SPEAKS ON FOOD EMPIRES: The Boardman Historical Society will present author and Historian Thomas Welsh to speak at 10 a.m. Saturday at Boardman Park. The topic is “The 3 Food Empires: Good Humor, Isaly’s and Arby’s.”
WWII SOCIETY MEETS: Bob Schneider of Hubbard will be guest speaker when the World War II Heritage Society meets at 6:15 p.m. Sept. 16 at A La Carte Catering in Canfield. The speech will be preceded by a buffet dinner. Reservations for the $17 meal are due by Saturday by contacting Dave Frank at 330-757-0515. Schneider will speak about the Far East campaigns of World War II, focusing on the Battle of Imphal and Kohima in Eastern India. A native of Pittsburgh, he graduated from YSU with a BS and MBA in business with a minor in history. He and his wife Sally reside in Hubbard and have two children.
GARDEN CLUB: The Austintown Garden Club will host a tea at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Sunrise Banquet Center, 510 E. Market St., Warren. Tickets are $25. For reservations, call 330-717-7942.
WORLD WEEK OF PRAYER: The Unity Spiritual Centre, 1126 Naylor Lloyd Road, Liberty, is hosting a World Week of Prayer with various events that emphasize the power of collective prayer. This year’s theme is “Moving Mountains.”
The Rev. Rose Houston will lead a program with prayers and a ceremony on 9 / 11 at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. The sanctuary will be open to pray for all of those who are on the prayer lists from 6:45 to 7:30 p.m.
