COMMUNITY NEWS: Presentation to focus on WIlliam M. Cafaro’s legacy
LIBERTY PROGRAM: The Liberty Community and Historical Society will meet 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the township administration building, 1315 Churchill Road. Thomas Welsh, writer and Youngstown historian, is guest speaker. He will discuss the life and career of the late developer William M. Cafaro from his 2021 book “The Life and Times of William M. Cafaro: A Man for All Seasons.” People will have the opportunity to purchase copies of the book.
GATHERING PLACE: A Gathering Place will be 11 a.m. today at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 550 N. Broad St., Canfield, for a program about the American Legion. A box lunch will be provided. The Gathering Place is a free community outreach offered to all senior citizens the second Monday of each month. For information, call 330-533-2531.
FAMILY DAY: The Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown will host a Family Day at 1:30 p.m. Sunday. There will be free educational programs and activities, including a scavenger hunt, tours and demonstrations.
APOLLO 11 MISSION: The Girard Free Library will host speaker Doug Fowler, former Youngstown State University adjunct professor of the department of geology, physics and astronomy, at 6 p.m. Tuesday on the Apollo 11 mission. The program will retrace the voyage and Neil Armstrong’s first steps.
ARCHAEOLOGY SOCIETY TO MEET: The Mahoning Valley Archaeological Society will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Austintown Senior Center with a program on the recent discoveries at the Lower Blue Licks in Kentucky. Artifacts from a 2024 excavation will be displayed.
FRIENDS OF LIBRARY MEETING: The Friends of the Girard Free Library will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday for a discussion on how people can support the library. Plans will be made for the calendar party Dec. 19 with tickets for the event $10 per person and available at the library.
TIME BANK EVENT: Local Futures, a new initiative hosted by Time Bank Mahoning Valley, will meet at 6:30 p.m. today at the Giant Eagle Starbucks, 4700 Belmont Ave., Liberty. The event is aimed at bringing community economic development through collaborative learning. Guests will learn how to contribute to a brighter sustainable future for the community.
WINTER CRAFT: Girard Free Library will host a winter holiday themed craft at 5:30 p.m. today. Participants will be creating wreaths for Christmas. Registration is required.
