COMMUNITY NEWS: Monday Night Writers meet tonight

LIBRARY FRIENDS PLAN EVENT: The Friends of the Library Canfield Committee will host a crop and craft fest fundraiser 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Feb. 8 at the Canfield Library, 43 W. Main St., Canfield. The daylong retreat offers scrappers, card makers and crafters to get individual attention to their hobbies. There will be a swap table and door prizes. Deadline to register is Jan. 29 at 330-740-6086. Tickets are $45 per person with proceeds to benefit library children’s programs and children’s summer reading program.

QUILTERS PROGRAM: That Quilt Group I Belong To will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Rotary Building at the Canfield Fairgrounds. The general meeting is the third Tuesday of each month with

doors opening at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting at 7 p.m. The group makes regular donations of items to Hospice of the Valley, Akron Children’s Mahoning Valley, Beatitude House and Sleep in Heavenly Peace. For information, call 330-507-4672.

MEN’S RALLY IN THE VALLEY: Men’s Rally in the Valley will host an opening volunteer meeting at 6:30 p.m. today at BOC Water Hydraulics, 12024 Salem Warren Road, Salem. The Men’s Rally in the Valley is set for May 24 at Stambaugh Auditorium.

MCKINLEY BIRTHDAY: Events are planned in Niles for former President Wiliam McKinley’s birthday. The McKinley Birthplace Home, 40 S. Main St., will be open 2 to 4 p.m. to wish President McKinley (portrayed by Mike Wilson) a happy 182nd birthday. The celebration will include games and light refreshments. At 3 p.m., Wilson will discuss the role faith played in McKinley’s upbringing. The home will be open for tours from 2 to 4 p.m.

The National McKinley Birthplace Memorial Museum will be open noon to 4 p.m. Saturday in honor of McKinley’s birthday. There will be a new case exhibit on the main floor featuring a portion of the extensive political campaign memorabilia in the museum’s collection. The museum will be open for tours, and the Museum Director, Belinda Weiss, will be available to give an overview and history of the memorial and answer any questions. Light refreshments will be served.

TRIVIA EVENT: The Girard Multi-Generational Center, Trumbull Avenue, will host trivia fun and an ice cream bar 10 a.m. to noon Friday. Participants will test their knowledge on different topics. An ice cream bar with all the toppings will be available.
