Martin Luther King day events

The following events have been scheduled locally to mark Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which is Monday:

SATURDAY

YOUNGSTOWN: “Help Over Hate: MLK Weekend of Service,” 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Unitarian Universalist Church of Youngstown, 1105 Elm St. Indivisible Youngstown will gather members from the Mahoning Valley to learn about issues affecting vulnerable groups.

SUNDAY

WARREN: The Trumbull County Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance will host a Martin Luther King Jr. service 6 p.m. at Grace AME Church, Main Street, Warren. Guest speaker is Dr. David Nelson of Akron. The TCIMA community choir will perform.

YOUNGSTOWN: The Annual MLK community worship service with a message from the Rev. Christopher McKee Jr. will take place 3:30 p.m. at Christ Centered Church, 330 Hudson Ave.

MONDAY

WARREN: Second Baptist Church, “A House of Hope” and the Central YMCA of Youngstown will host the 2025 MLK Day Youth Workshop and Fun Day noon to 3 p.m. at the Triyounity Building, 239 Main St., Warren. The free event will honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. by engaging local youth in a day of empowerment, education and fun. Open to students in grades 3-8, the workshop will include interactive discussions, games, activities, food and prizes. Register at

WARREN: The Shalom Church of God in Christ (COGIC) Church, 4179 Parkman Road, NW will hold an MLK Day for youth with various activities planned from 2 to 6 p.m. including kickball, basketball and dodgeball.

YOUNGSTOWN: Martin Luther King Jr. workshop 8:30 a.m. to noon Monday at First Presbyterian Church, 201 Wick Ave. The focus of the workshop is “Saving our Democracy.” The event is hosted in conjunction with the Martin Luther King Day Committee.
