COMMUNITY NEWS: Agriculture workshop set in Canfield
AGRICULTURAL PROGRAM WORKSHOP: The Mahoning Soil and Water Conservation District, in collaboration with the Mahoning County Farm Bureau and the Mahoning County Auditor’s Office, will host a workshop on Ohio’s Current Agricultural Use Value program 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Canfield Library, 43 W. Main St., Canfield.
The workshop is designed to provide insights into the CAUV program, which helps reduce property taxes on agricultural land. Expert representatives from the Mahoning County SWCD, Mahoning County Auditor’s Office, and Ohio Farm Bureau will share information on CAUV eligibility requirements, the application and renewal process, inspection procedures, and recent updates to CAUV laws. Attendees also will learn practical strategies to maximize the benefits of the program for their properties.

CLOTHES AVAILABLE: Helping Hands Closet will offer gently used clothing 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays at Western Reserve United Methodist Church, 4580 Canfield Road.
KIDS CAREER FAIR: The Mahoning County Career and Technical Center, Valley STEM and City Machine Technology Inc will host a Kids Career Fair 10 a.m. to 2 p.m,. Saturday at the career center, 7300 N. Palmyra Road, Canfield The event will showcase career opportunities in the area. Local businesses will be in attendance offering activities and giveaways.
BOOKS BEING COLLECTED: St. John’s Episcopal Church, Wick Avenue, Youngstown, is accepting book donations for the annual Taft Elementary book drive. The church would like to give three books to each of the school’s 250 children for a total of 1,000 books. The age range is kindergarten to fifth grade. All books must be delivered by Friday. ARTWORK DISPLAYED: The Davis Family YMCA, 45 McClurg Road, Boardman, will host an arts show through Feb. 28 featuring the artwork of more than 30 area artists.
GENEALOGY SOCIETY: The Mahoning County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Charles Church, 7324 Westview Drive, Boardman, in the ministry building. The society will be unveiling its new lineage society, Mahoning County Families, who have called the Mahoning Valley their home for the past 100 years. The meeting is open to the public.
DENTAL CARE: Berolasio Dental, 26 E. Wilson Ave., Girard, will celebrate the American Dental Association’s Give Kids a Smile Day 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday. There will be free exams, cleanings and other dental services, for children ages 2 to 18. To schedule an appointment, call 330-545-2000.
VALENTINE’S PARTY: The Friends of the Girard Library will host a Valentine’s Day themed party at noon Saturday at the library’s community room. The event will include a raffle basket. Registration is needed by Wednesday at the circulation desk or call 330-545-2508.
FAMILY DAY: The Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown will host a Family Day 1:30 to 3 p.m. Sunday. There will be tours, demonstration and scavenger hunt and art activities. The event is open to all ages.
CRAFT FEST: The Friends of the Canfield Library Canfield committee will host a Crop and Craft Fest 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Canfield Library, 43 W. Main St.There will be scrapbook making, card making and crafters. There also will be door prizes.
