Fri. 11 a.m.: Fatal crash kills 91-year-old Brookfield man
HUBBARD TOWNSHIP — A 91-year-old Brookfield man is dead following a wrong way, head-on crash along Interstate 80 in Hubbard Township, state troopers reported.
Troopers indicate the crash happened at around 1:25 a.m. Friday when a semi-truck driving in the eastbound lane collided with the now deceased driver, Gary Wagner, who was driving his 1996 Chevrolet S-10 car west in the eastbound lane, leading up to the collision.
As the two drivers collided head-on, troopers say it forced both into the median and caused the semi-truck and the loaded 53-foot van trailer it was pulling to jackknife.
The semi truck driver, a 72-year-old man from Greenville, Pa., was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown with non-life-threatening injuries.
But troopers say Wagner was pronounced dead at the scene and transported to the Trumbull County Morgue.
Hubbard Township Police, Hubbard Township Fire and EMS personnel, and a crew from the Ohio Department of Transportation assisted at the scene as the crash remains under investigation by troopers.
