First of three defendants in Rowan killing sentenced to prison

YOUNGSTOWN — Judge Anthony D’Apolito said he hoped that the sentencings that began this morning in the Sept. 21, 2020, killing of Rowan Sweeney at a home on Perry Street in Struthers can help the boy’s family start to heal.

He sentenced Andre McCoy Jr., 24, to 15 years to life in prison for his role in putting the killing and shootings of four adults — including himself — in motion. It was the sentence jointly recommended by prosecutors and the defense.

Co-defendant Kimonie Bryant will be sentenced this afternoon, and the third defendant, Brandon Crump Jr., will be sentenced later this month.
