Lita Ford, Vindys to play Rich Center benefit at Youngstown amp

Lita Ford, former Runaway and Ozzy Osbourne collaborator, and Youngstown’s The Vindys will play a benefit show for the Rich Center for Autism at Youngstown Foundation Amphitheatre.

Rock The Rich Center on May 31 is billed as “a night of rock and philanthropy.” The concert coincides with the 30th anniversary for the Rich Center, which is named in memory of Paula and Anthony Rich, who were killed in a plane crash in 1994.

This will be the first time the annual benefit show is at the downtown Youngstown amphitheater.

According to Jake Ellis, community engagement and event operations coordinator for the center, “Each year, Rock The Rich Center grows larger.

It was time to move the show to the amphitheater to accommodate the crowd. We have two amazing female vocalists and musicians with Lita Ford and Jackie (Popovec of The Vindys) putting on a show to benefit our center that was founded in 1995 by a group of very dedicated and determined women.”

Ford got her start as a teenager with the band The Runaways and found success as a solo artist in the 1980s with the hit “Kiss Me Deadly” and “Close My Eyes Forever,” a duet with Osbourne.

The Vindys, which have headlined Rock the Rich Center before and headlined at the Youngstown Foundation Amphitheatre, spent last summer on its first nationwide tour, opening for Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo.

Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. show range from $28.50 to $75 and go on sale 10 a.m. Friday at the Covelli Centre’s Southwoods Health box office and through Ticketmaster. An online-only presale runs 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday with the password RICH.
