Man fatally stabbed Friday identified, and suspect arrested in Pittsburgh area
YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown Police Department has identified the man who was stabbed to death Friday evening in the Cornersburg area of the city’s West Side as Nestor Diaz, 37.
In a news release today, police also stated that Camilo Barreto, 38, has been arrested in the Pittsburgh area on a murder charge in the case and is now in the Allegheny County jail.
The release states that Diaz was stabbed in the 3700 block of Tippecanoe Road Friday. Police were called there at 7:55 p.m. for a stabbing. When officers arrived, they found Diaz with a stab wound to the abdomen.
Officers and ambulance personnel administered aid, but Diaz was pronounced dead. Detectives and crime scene personnel were called to the scene.
Officers learned that Barreto was the suspect in the killing, and that the stabbing resulted from a dispute over property, according to the release.
Barreto was tracked to the Pittsburgh area, and Youngstown police requested assistance from the Baldwin Borough Police Department, which took Barreto into custody without incident, the release states.
Barreto now awaits extradition back to Ohio to face a murder charge, the release states. Youngstown police said earlier that the suspect in the case used to live with the victim. After the suspect showed up at the victim’s home, the two argued, leading to the stabbing. The suspect then fled, police said.
