Bus aide arrested on endangerment charge

BOARDMAN — A Boardman bus aide is charged with child endangerment and accused of dragging a child.

David Genuske, 70, was arrested Wednesday afternoon, according to the Boardman Police Department. Court records show that a warrant was issued earlier Wednesday and that Genuske is from Canfield.

According to Boardman police, Mahoning County Children Services contacted the department regarding the March 16 incident of a bus aide dragging a 4-year-old on the sidewalk near West Boulevard Elementary.

The incident was confirmed through surveillance video, Sgt. Mike Sweeney said.

The footage and information from interviews were taken to the Mahoning County Prosecutor’s Office, Sweeney said, which resulted in the charge being filed Wednesday afternoon.

A report was received by Boardman Local Schools on March 17, the district confirmed Wednesday, “regarding a Boardman bus aide, questioning the aide’s method of assisting a preschool student into the building,” a news release states.

The child attends the Mahoning County Educational Service Center’s preschool housed at West Boulevard. Since March 17, the bus aide has been on administrative leave.

Upon learning of the allegation, administration contacted the child’s mother, the district stated.

“The safety of every student in our district is always our foremost priority. If substantiated, the allegations reported to Boardman schools constitute inappropriate and offensive conduct that justify discipline up to and including termination. The district is actively engaged in the required disciplinary process,” the district stated in its release.
