Woman hit by stray bullet
YOUNGSTOWN — A woman, 78, was struck in the hip by a bullet as she slept in her bed in the first block of Benita Avenue on the North Side late Wednesday.
The woman told police the bullet came through the second-floor window. The bullet exited her leg and went into the wood paneling on the wall across from the window, police said.
The woman told police she only recalled hearing a “click” sound and then noticed blood on her bed sheets. Her husband, who was downstairs watching television, did not hear the gunfire, and only heard glass break, police said.
The victim was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries. Officers recovered the lodged bullet from the paneling.
