Woman indicted in roommate’s death

WARREN — A Hubbard woman was indicted Tuesday by a Trumbull County grand jury on charges connected to an Aug. 27 car / pedestrian crash on Sampson Road in Liberty that killed her 35-year-old roommate, who was a corrections officer.

Alexandria R. Morales, 26, of East Liberty Street, Hubbard, faces charges of aggravated vehicular homicide and two counts of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. If found guilty, she could face up to nine years incarceration and a lifetime driver’s license suspension.

Court records show that Morales is scheduled for arraignment at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 2 before Common Pleas Judge Andrew D. Logan. Morales was released from the county jail Sept. 24 after posting a $50,000 bond, jail records show.

According to reports, Morales and her roommate Amanda Markowitz, 35, were arguing about Morales leaving the Sampson Road home about 3:30 a.m. Aug. 27. As Morales was trying to leave in her Buick, the report states, her car ran over the woman as she was standing in the driveway. Both women were suspected to be intoxicated at the time, a 911 report showed.

Markowitz suffered massive head injuries, according to the report. A witness who had called 911 told police that everyone was fighting, and when she went inside to get her cellphone, the report states the fatal accident occurred.

Markowitz, who was a corrections officer at the Lawrence (Pa.) County jail, was pronounced dead later after being taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
