Local businessman facing drug charges

POLAND — Ron J. Zoldan, 33, of Canfield, has posted a $100,000 bond and faces drug offenses after being found with heroin, methamphetamine and cash inside his 2021 Cadillac Escalade, a police report states.

Zoldan was charged after a traffic stop Friday in Poland village, according to Struthers Municipal Court records. He faces a second-degree possession of drugs felony, a second-degree trafficking of drugs felony, and misdemeanors of labeling a contraband substance, speeding and operating a vehicle without a license.

Mahoning County jail records indicate Zoldan was booked into that facility on Saturday. He was released the same day.

He was arraigned Monday in Struthers court, where he waived his right to a speedy trial, court records state. Ohio defendants who are not incarcerated must be tried within 270 days of arrest.

The court records show the arresting police officer in the village was Melissa Williams.

Village police Chief Donald Lambert said he had no comment about the arrest and referred to the details in the police report.

The report states Zoldan at 11:50 p.m. Friday was driving 41 miles per hour in a 25 mph zone on South Main Street in the village. He told police he was late for picking up his daughter.

The report states three clear plastic bags with substances inside were found in the vehicle, and the contents of two of them later were tested to be heroin and methamphetamine. The trafficking charge was added because the different portions in each bag exceeded a bulk amount.

Also in the vehicle, the report states, was $3,400 in cash.

The officer stated in the report that the driver, identified as Zoldan, was acting very nervous, talking excitedly and sweating profusely. The officer also noticed white residue on the driver’s seat and asked the driver to check the bookbag on the passenger’s side where the plastic bags were found, the report states.

Zoldan is vice president of Youngstown-based Phantom Fireworks.
