WHAT: Village council meeting Monday
PRESENT: Ron Radtka, Lamar Liming, Robert Bond, Terry Campbell, Howard Sheely, Jamie Moseley and Mayor Arno Hill
Council:
• Passed a resolution urging the legislative branch of the federal government and state of Ohio to enact legislation to protect citizens of the village from inherent dangers of train derailment on tracks in Lordstown and to protect citizens from effects on health and safety caused by idling of trains. Officials said that on numerous occasions, trains have stopped on tracks within the village for long periods of time and left their engines running, with residents living near the tracks having their sleep and quality of life disrupted by the noise;
• Accepted a $7,146 Trench Safety Grant from the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation to purchase two badger boxes, eight adjustable speakers, one stacking kit and one leg kit totaling $8,933. The village’s share for the items is $1,786;
• Announced the Memorial Day ceremony will be at 10 a.m. May 29 at the cemetery with refreshments served at the village administration building afterwards;
• Heard from Village Engineer Chris Kogelnik, who said roof work will begin proceeding at the village administration building and the police department;
• Announced a scrap tire collection will be 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 12 to 16 with limit of six tires per household;
• Heard from resident Johnathan Ritter of naming a section of Hallock Young Run in front of the General Motors plant to honor Foxconn. Bond said people in the community got a petition previously to change the name of a section;
• Approved sale of a 2016 Chevrolet Impala police cruiser at $1,375 on Govdeals.com;
