Steel Valley Cluster dog show to be presented at fairgrounds
CANFIELD — The Canfield Fairgrounds are going to the dogs for four days this week.
The Fort Steuben Kennel Association, Columbiana County Kennel Club, Beaver County Kennel Club, and Mahoning-Shenango Kennel Club once again will bring dog lovers for the Steel Valley Cluster.
Hundreds of dogs and their owners will get the chance to strut their stuff in the show ring Thursday through Sunday at the fairgrounds on state Route, 46, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
The event is great for the whole family, but dogs that are not entered in competitions are not permitted on show grounds. Admission is free, but parking is $5.
Spectators can watch the judging of various breeds in conformation; view obedience trials, which test a dog’s understanding of commands; watch dogs compete in a 100-meter dash chasing a lure with Fast CAT; see young owner-handlers compete against their peers in the Junior Showmanship Competition; and watch owner-handlers compete in a special series called the National Owner-Handled Series.
Rally trials will test dogs’ understanding of commands, as they maneuver hurdles and retrieve articles; dogs will show off their extreme water skills in a dock diving competition; and puppies will get started in the sport in the AKC sanctioned 4 and under 6 months puppy competition.
