McDonald remodels council chambers
Officials OK $125K for fall road projects
MCDONALD — As village officials wait for the municipal building council chambers remodeling project to be completed next month, they also are planning for fall road projects.
Village Administrator Tom Domitrovich said work that began this summer is continuing on the second floor of the municipal building where council meetings take place.
He said work is being done on lighting and electrical upgrades for the room as well as ceiling work and carpet installation.
“Construction is about 80 percent done. We needed to make improvements to the council chambers,” Domitrovich said.
He said UCI Contracting has been doing the work with the total cost at $90,000. Work done by UCI is about $50,000, with the village also having additional costs for carpeting and electrical, bringing the total to $90,000.
Domitrovich said the room had not been remodeled for many years, and will include new desks. He said the flat-topped roof of the building above the chambers was done first followed by the inside work.
Council President Ray Lewis said when work is completed will determine when council returns to the room. Currently, meetings take place at the community room in another building across the street.
ROAD WORK
Villlage council last week approved Lindy Paving of New Galilee, Pa., at $125,973 for the 2023 road project that includes resurfacing sections of Second and Third streets.
Lewis said Connecticut Avenue, which originally was planned for paving this year, will be done in 2024. He said the village was not able to get grant money for that project this year.
Domitrovich said the work on the other two streets will be done later this fall. He said West Third Street and the northbound side only of Second Street will be done.
“The project will include major repairs on those roads,” he said.
In other business at Thursday’s meeting, Councilman Kyle Joynes said the Oktoberfest will be 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Oct. 21 in the village park and include musical entertainment, food, pickleball tournament, crafters, vendors and children’s activities.
Council also:
l Approved an agreement with Trumbull County Board of Developmental Disabilities for having its students do work in the village, such as cleaning of buildings;
l Heard from Lewis that the village received a “clean audit” for 2021 and 2022, and he credits Fiscal Officer Stephanie Smith and office staff;
l Approved the village planning commission to meet only quarterly, not monthly.
