YOUNGSTOWN — “Greatness Revealed: The Art of African Americans at the Butler Institute of American Art.” Virginia Banks and Lou Zona will co-curate. The exhibit is open daily through March 1.

WARREN — The Trumbull County African American Achievers Association Hall of Fame will host its annual Celebration of African American Excellence at 5 p.m. Saturday at DiVieste’s Banquet Center, 754 North River Road. Guest speaker is Dr. Bill Bradley. The event also will include the celebration of five African American scholars from Trumbull County, who will receive scholarships. For tickets, which are $50, call 330-307-8282.

WARREN — “Freedom to Read: Uncensored Accounts of the Black Experience” will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Warren Trumbull County Public Library. Youngstown State University professor Dolores V. Sisco, an expert on African-American literature and culture, will discuss some of the books that illuminate the black experience in America, and how these books tie into what is going on with book bans at public libraries.

LIBERTY — Black History African Dance Celebration with the Harambee Dancers of Youngstown will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Liberty High School auditorium.

YOUNGSTOWN — Inspired by the work of Bisa Butler, there will be a class at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Newport branch of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County to learn about textile arts and making quilt portraits.

AUSTINTOWN — Mahoning Valley Historical Society Curator of Education Traci Manning is speaking at 6 p.m. today at the Austintown Library branch. Manning will discuss local abolitionist history and ties to the Underground Railroad. Call 330-744-8636 to register.

WARREN — The Warren Heritage Center (Kinsman House) will host Black History Month programs at 6 p.m. Feb. 19 and 20. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The topic is the importance of African-American churches. The Feb. 19 speaker is the Rev. Shane Floyd, pastor of Grace AME Church, the oldest African-American congregation in Warren, which is celebrating 115 years. On Feb. 20 is the Rev. Sampson Murray, pastor of Triedstone Baptist Church, which is celebrating 100 years.

The Harambee Youth Organization and Choffin Musical Production performance and program will be 9 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. Feb. 20.

YOUNGSTOWN — “Name that R&B Tune” will be 6 p.m. Feb. 20 at the main branch of the Public Library of Youngstown Mahoning County. “African American Inventors in History” will be at 4:30 p.m. Feb. 21 at the main library branch. WARREN — The Raymond John Wean Foundation will host Racial Equity Institute training virtually 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 21 and 22. The workshops seek to empower participants with a deeper understanding of racism.
