Girard man given 2 life sentences
WARREN — A double life sentence was handed down against a Girard man after a jury convicted him for the rape of two young boys.
Nicholas A. Clark was found guilty Feb. 28 for the rape of two minors that prosecutors say were sexually abused by Clark, beginning when they were 7 and 9 years old, from 2016 through 2021. The case was tried by Trumbull County Assistant Prosecutor Diane Barber opposite attorney Ross Smith.
Common Pleas Judge Cynthia Rice told the defendant he had traumatized the two victims, now teenagers, for years.
“There is no way to calculate how much future counseling will be required or needed by the victims to overcome the abuse they’ve endured at your hands,” Rice said.
Leading up to the double life sentence, the judge said Clark has shown no remorse for his actions that resulted in the rape and gross sexual imposition charges.
Clark will be labeled a Tier 3 sex offender. If released, he would have to register every 90 days with law enforcement for the rest of his life.
One of the victims took to the podium to read a victim impact statement telling Clark, “Sometimes I can’t sleep because of you; my thoughts keep me up sometimes. Because of you I have panic attacks. You hurt me.”
Clark stood watching just a few feet away as each letter was read.
The remaining statements addressing Clark were read aloud on their behalf by Jenna Maze, Trumbull County Victim Witness Advocate.
Another of the victims said the abuse he endured by Clark had given him trauma, anxiety and trust issues, telling the defendant he wanted him to rot in a cell the rest of his life.
An adult man relative of the teens said Clark never was able to take responsibility for his actions — reminding the defendant that they had worked out a plea deal offer that would have had the defendant serve less than 10 years had he taken responsibility for his actions.
A woman adult relative said she’d never forgive Clark.
