Boardman man charged with threatening family
BOARDMAN — A local man is in jail awaiting a court appearance after police said he threatened to kill his family.
Aaron Rose, 47, of Alverne Drive, is charged with domestic violence and threatening, and also has been forbidden to contact or set foot in the Holiday Inn on South Avenue.
According to a Boardman police report, Rose was arrested on Friday afternoon after a 911 call from his mother triggered a SWAT response at their home. He appeared Tuesday in Mahoning County Boardman Court, where he pleaded not guilty.
Judge Joseph Houser imposed a $2,500 cash or surety bond and set a pretrial hearing for Oct. 3. Mahoning County jail records show Rose remains in lockup.
The report states that Rose’s mother called 911 about 3:45 p.m. Friday and said she had locked herself in an upstairs bedroom. She said Rose reacted badly to a verbal argument, first throwing and breaking things in the living room, then pointing a rifle at her, saying “I’m going to shoot you,” before she ran from him.
At the time of the 911 call, the report states, the woman told dispatch Rose had been making threats to kill his father and brother, and she believed he was still in the house with the rifle.
Police stood outside for close to two hours, attempting to contact Rose by phone, calling and sending text messages.
About 5:30 p.m., police were notified that someone matching his description was seen at a restaurant in Poland, along U.S. 224. The report states that police used a police dog to search for him in the area before finding him along the woods near Cover Drive. He was arrested without incident.
A separate report states that about the same time Rose’s mother called 911, police also responded to a call at the Holiday Inn.
That report states that Rose used to work there and one of the employees had been receiving strange messages from him over the past several weeks.
The report states that the woman told police after Rose quit, he would still show up and talk to her, complaining about other employees there.
Eventually, he started texting her regularly, and had begun threatening some of the employees there. She told police that he continued to text her despite her repeated requests that he stop.
The texts referred to police reports, details about cases detectives were working, and at one point a picture of a Nazi swastika.
On Friday, the text messages specifically referred to employees he said had wronged him in some way while he worked there and that he had “assembled a tactical team” to “take care of this situation.”
The report notes that while the officer at Holiday Inn was documenting this complaint, his colleagues were en route to Rose’s Alverne Drive home.
The report from the Alverne incident also notes that Rose’s father was detained by police after they stopped him on his way home and told him he could not enter the home because of the ongoing investigation. He told police they could not keep him from his home and tried to drive past them, and was arrested.
Court records show Herbert Rose faces charges for resisting arrest and misconduct during an emergency, both misdemeanors. He also is set for a pretrial hearing Oct. 3.
