Gunfire rocks two South Side Youngstown neighborhoods
YOUNGSTOWN — Two South Side neighborhoods were hit by similarly large amounts of gunfire late Thursday and early Friday, but no one reported any injuries.
At 10:31 p.m. Thursday, police were called to East Midlothian Boulevard for gunfire and a ShotSpotter notification, which alerts Youngstown police to gunfire on the South Side.
The ShotSpotter indicated 24 shots were fired. When officers arrived, they found 15 spent bullet shell casings between two apartment buildings. Officers searched the area and were unable to locate anyone injured or any property damage.
Officers spoke to several people, and none said they heard or saw anything.
At 1:08 a.m. Friday in the 100 block of East Ravenwood Avenue, officers were called because of a ShotSpotter notification. Officers also received a phone call about a house being shot up, and a vehicle in a driveway also was hit by gunfire.
Officers learned that one side of a home had been hit by multiple rounds of gunfire. A resident was asked if there were any conflicts going on, and the resident said there had been an incident at a Youngstown State University football game and a threat was made.
Police found 25 spent bullet shell casings in the street. The two locations are not far from each other, but the report from Midlothian Avenue does not specify in what block the gunfire happened.
