Mahoning GOP to mark wins with Dec. 28 Victory Party

CANFIELD – The Mahoning County Republican Party will celebrate its historic wins during the recent election with a Dec. 28 “Victory Party” featuring Tyrus, a Fox News personality and retired professional wrestler.

“We have a lot of momentum and we thought we should capitalize on it by having an event with local and statewide Republicans,” said Tom McCabe, Republican chairman. “We want to celebrate what we accomplished in 2024 and start to get ready for 2026 by building a war chest to keep the auditor’s seat and win the commissioner’s race.”

The Dec. 28 event will start at 6 p.m. at Waypoint 4180, 4180 Westford Place in Canfield, with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $100 with a VIP reception before the event costing $250.

Reservations can be made by calling party headquarters at 330-629-7006 or online at mahoninggop.com.

The party has commitments from supporters to purchase about 12 to 14 tables of eight so far, McCabe said.

During the Nov. 5 election, Republicans won four of the six contested county executive branch races, had Sheriff Jerry Greene switch from Democrat to Republican and had its incumbents win a congressional race, a state Senate race and one of two state House seats.

For the first time in 90 years, Republicans will have a majority of countywide executive branch seats. Of the 11, Republicans will control six in 2025.

Also, Donald Trump won Mahoning for the second consecutive presidential election, becoming the first Republican since Herbert Hoover in 1928 and 1932 to win two straight presidential races in the county.

Republican Bernie Moreno beat U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, a Democrat, for his seat in Mahoning County by 0.2 of a percent. Brown had large wins in Mahoning County during his three other senatorial campaigns.

George Murdoch, known as Tyrus, will be the guest speaker at the Dec. 28 event.

Tyrus is a regular panelist on Gutfeld!, a conservative talk show on Fox News hosted by Greg Gutfeld. Before that, Tyrus spent about 17 years as a pro wrestler.

Tyrus also hosts a show on OutKick, a conservative sports and political commentary website owned by Fox.

Tyrus on Gutfeld’s Sept. 18 show presented Trump with a replica wrestling championship belt saying he was “the people’s champion.”

McCabe said he was watching Gutfeld! one night and “I thought it would be cool to get (Tyrus) booked here. He’d be fun to have. He’s a good draw, he’s popular and he’s something different. He will be a good fundraiser for us.”

Starting at $2.99/week.
