Youngstown police helping with warm clothing giveaway
YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown Police Department is participating with Victoria’s Vision, a community group, to provide coats, hats, gloves, boots and more to needy families at 9 a.m. Saturday.
The event will be at Faith Fellowship Church of God, 388 E. Midlothian Boulevard.
Victoria’s Vision is named for Victoria Allen, president of Crime Stoppers of Greater Youngstown, who died in 2021.
Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost awarded Allen the Ohio Attorney General’s Distinguished Civilian Leadership Award. The award is given annually to an individual who works closely with law enforcement and made an extraordinary contribution to the community.
Nine Youngstown police officers nominated Allen, 49, for the award. In addition to Allen’s role with Crime Stoppers, she was president of the ICU Block Watch Group on the city’s South Side, was events coordinator for the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 28 of Youngstown and spearheaded numerous events and giveaways in the city.
