AUSTINTOWN — A local man is due Monday in Mahoning County Austintown Court on charges that accuse him of assaulting the mother of his 4-day-old son.

A police report states Jayden D. Melton is in the Mahoning County Jail awaiting an initial appearance on a felony charge of strangulation and misdemeanor charges of domestic violence, obstructing police business and resisting arrest.

The report states police responded around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday to a Compass West apartment after the woman’s mother reported to police her daughter sent a text that she was being choked by a man.

The victim also told police the man assaulted her earlier while the two were in a car and outside the apartment, according to the report.
