Canfield Historical Society gets surprise donor offer

CANFIELD — The Canfield Historical Society has been approached by an individual who wishes to remain anonymous regarding a special offer — for the month of December, any donations made to the society will be matched.

“The donor is graciously matching any new donations through the end of 2024,” said historical society curator Laura Zeh. “The opportunity will expire on Dec. 31.”

She said donations can be sent to the Canfield Historical Society, P.O. Box 3, Canfield, OH 44406. For more information, call the society at 330-533-3458 or visit canfieldhistory.com. The society is a registered nonprofit.

While Zeh is wrapping up another year for the Bond House and the society is finishing the 2025 calendar of events, she said 2025 is packed with activities. The calendar kicks off with a March 13 lecture on Canfield businesses.

On April 12, a “Museum Hop” has been scheduled and will feature Canfield historical sites. Zeh said the details are still being worked out. May 8 will feature a lecture on Canfield’s churches and history.

On June 13 and 14, the Bond House will play host to a special exhibit.

“We will be pulling out all of our vintage wedding dresses,” Zeh said. “They will all be featured in a June bride display.”

The summer months continue with an open house July 4, a scavenger hunt using a cellphone July 19, a members-only social Aug. 9 and an Aug. 15 Village Cemetery tombstone cleanup.

Sept. 11 will feature a virtual stroll around the historic Canfield Green featuring a lot of the former businesses that made up the area.

October will feature a guided lantern walk in the Village Cemetery with the date to be announced. November will see the Bond House host a Christmas craft workshop, and in December the Dispatch museum will be open for the Lighting of the Green.

“It’s going to be a busy 2025,” Zeh said.

Starting at $2.99/week.
