Liberty Township theft report results in caller being arrested
LIBERTY — A reported theft resulted in a caller being arrested on active warrants Saturday.
Jermaine Young, 32, of Youngstown, was booked into the Trumbull County jail for an active misdemeanor warrant including criminal simulation, theft and impersonating a police officer and later charges of obstructing official business and falsification.
According to the incident report, a Liberty police officer was dispatched to Liberty Mini Mart in response to a theft reported by a customer. Young gave the officer a false name and told him that his wallet and bags were presumed to have been stolen, after he was abandoned at the store by an unfamiliar person and their girlfriend.
Upon getting his real name after asking for it a third time, the officer learned of Young’s active misdemeanors and he was arrested.
A police officer No. 8 badge was found in his bag and was confiscated as evidence during a search incident.
