Man pleads guilty to assault on mother of some of his kids
Also pleads guilty to stolen property, firearms, other counts
YOUNGSTOWN — Rayvon V. Parker, 26, of North Bon Air Avenue, pleaded guilty Thursday to two counts of attempted felonious assault and single counts of felony domestic violence, receiving stolen property, being a felon in possession of a firearm and assault for crimes committed against the mother of some of his children.
Prosecutors agreed to dismiss other charges in exchange for Parker’s guilty plea, and they and the defense are jointly recommending he receive 10 years in prison when he is sentenced next month.
The offenses arose from incidents Jan. 16 and May 19, 2022, both in Boardman.
In January, Boardman police said they responded to an apartment near Mathews Road and Applecrest Court, where the mother of some of Parker’s children told police Parker punched her in the face, kicked her in the stomach several times and dragged her around the apartment by her hair.
The report states Parker took the keys to her Jeep and drove off before police arrived. She said she was 33 weeks pregnant and having lower abdominal pain. Police noted she had bald patches on her lower scalp from her hair being ripped out. There were seven young children in the apartment at the time of the incident.
The unborn baby was found to be unharmed and the woman was kept at the hospital for observation. She told police that although she was afraid Parker would come back and hurt her again, she did not want to press charges, the report states.
Police were notified the next day Parker had returned to the apartment. Officers arrived and ordered Parker to surrender at gunpoint. Police said Parker refused to comply and appeared to be reaching for something near his waistband. An officer deployed a stun gun on him, but officers still had to tackle him to the ground and deploy the stun gun at close range to subdue him.
In the May 2022 incident, Boardman police said Parker burst into the same woman’s Rockdale Avenue apartment carrying a gun and making demands regarding the children. The report states when the victim tried to wrestle the gun from him, it discharged into the ceiling.
A neighbor told police she tried to stop Parker from entering the apartment building, but he pointed the gun at her, a report states.
After the shot was fired, either the mother or the neighbor tried to remove the children from the situation and take them outside, the report states. Parker then came outside and fired more shots, then forced the mother and children into his car and drove away before police arrived, it adds.
