Three gunfire incidents Sunday injured two people
YOUNGSTOWN — Two men suffered non-life threatening injuries in a shooting early Sunday on the South Side, and gunfire was investigated at two other locations in Youngstown Sunday.
The two men were listed in stable condition at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital after they arrived at the hospital in a personal vehicle with gunshot wounds in the 3:14 a.m. incident.
A police report states that the shootings occurred at South and East Lucius avenues.
Capt. Jason Simon of the Youngstown Police Detective Division, said both men were together and were shot by the same person over a disagreement at or near a business on South Avenue.
They went in the same vehicle to the hospital.
At 12:32 a.m. Sunday, the city’s ShotSpotter notification system alerted the police department to gunfire in the 800 block of East Boston Avenue on the South Side.
When officers arrived, they saw two spent bullet shell casings at the end of a driveway that fronts on Homestead Avenue.
The casings were recovered and placed into evidence, a report states.
At 8:03 p.m. Sunday, ShotSpotter notifications went to the police department for a store in the 3800 block of Market Street on the South Side
One notification was for seven gunshots near the sidewalk on the east side of Market Street, a report states. The other notification was for five shots in an empty lot across the street from the other ShotSpotter notification, a police report states.
When officers arrived, they found three spent bullet casings in the northbound lane of Market Street near the intersection of Market Street and LaBelle Avenue.
Because of heavy rain and winds, it appeared some of the shell casings were blown or washed away, the report states.
While at the scene, officers were advised to find a woman on Howard Street whose car was struck by bullets while she was driving. An officer spoke to the woman, who said that while driving on South Avenue, she saw a white four-door car traveling west on East Midlothian Boulevard. The vehicle turned north onto Market Street, where she heard one shot.
She heard a second shot that went through her front windshield in the middle near the dashboard, she said. She went to a friend’s house to call 911.
Her car had dust and glass all over the dashboard and front seats, the report states. A spent bullet was on the middle row of seats, and a spent bullet on the floor, it adds.
