Woman charged after fight involving gun
YOUNGSTOWN — Mia Subramanian, 21, will be arraigned today in Youngstown Municipal Court on a charge of misdemeanor assault after police viewed a video showing her pulling a black object out of her jacket and swinging it and hitting another woman in the head with it during a fight on the South Side on Monday evening.
Youngstown police took Subramanian to the Mahoning County jail and wrote in their report that they intended to charge her with a felony but only a misdemeanor assault charge was on file Tuesday afternoon in Youngstown Municipal Court.
An officer on patrol saw a group of people fighting in the parking lot of Jordan’s Market, 1520 Market St., at 5:20 p.m. When the officer got out of his cruiser, he saw two women fighting, but neither of them was Subramanian.
As the officer approached the women, one said “she has a gun and hit me with it,” the report states. One of the two women who was fighting told the officer that Subramanian was there with a friend of hers, and Subramanian hit one of the women in the head with a handgun.
The woman who was struck by the gun had a small laceration under one eye and blood on her face. The woman refused medical treatment.
The store surveillance video showed Subramanian hitting one of the women with the gun and then circling the individuals who were fighting and keeping her hand near her waist area. Subramanian was arrested after removing a satchel around her shoulder that contained suspected drugs, the report states.
Officers found a black gun fully loaded with 26 rounds of ammunition in the gun’s extended magazine, the report states. Youngstown Municipal Court records do not indicate that Subramanian was charged with drug possession or any felonies.
