Woman pleads guilty to prostitution in bust at Youngstown business

YOUNGSTOWN — Yuli Guo, 49, of China, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor soliciting prostitution Tuesday in Youngstown Municipal Court and received a suspended 60-day jail sentence and was ordered to pay $700 in court costs.

Guo was charged with the offense Aug. 5 after members of the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force went to the Elegant Foot Spa, 1760 Belmont Ave., No. 3, in the city to serve a search warrant as part of a human trafficking investigation.

They arrested Guo after she solicited an undercover agent for sex acts for money, according to a Youngstown police report. The raid took place at the same time as similar raids on locations in Hubbard and North Lima.

Youngstown Municipal Court Judge Renee DiSalvo ordered Guo to serve one year of probation, and forfeit $5,480 that was seized during the investigation, according to court records. Through her attorney, she sought return of the funds, but DiSalvo denied the motion. She also paid $700 in fines and court costs, according to court records.

As part of Guo’s probation, she has until Dec. 17 to show proof that she has valid employment and proof of a work visa or other verification that she has the right to work and reside in the United States, according to court records.

Guo’s case is one of several that were highlighted Wednesday in a news release from Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost’s office. The release stated that Yost and Mahoning County Sheriff Jerry Greene credited the task force for the conviction of Guo and

charges being filed against others recently.

“Sex traffickers don’t take a holiday break, and neither do our task forces,” Yost stated. “Year-round, our agents work 24/7, applying constant pressure to both the demand and supply sides of human trafficking. Don’t buy sex in Ohio.”

Another case resulting from a Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force investigation was the conviction of Anthony Davila, 47, of Cleveland, on felonies of attempted compelling prostitution, attempted unlawful sexual conduct with a minor and four counts of pandering obscenities involving a minor.

He was sentenced to six years in prison in Columbiana County Common Pleas court and will have to register as a sex offender every 180 days for life when he leaves prison.

In January, Davila agreed to pay for sex with a fictitious 15-year-old girl during a sting operation. After obtaining a search warrant, investigators found child-sexual-abuse material on Davila’s phone, according to the task force press release.

Charges also have been filed against three others in the past month during task force investigations and undercover operations, the press release stated. Their cases are not yet resolved.

They are:

● J. Wilson Peake, 63, of Boardman, who was charged in November in Columbiana County with engaging in prostitution and possession of criminal tools after he allegedly responded to an advertisement posted by undercover agents and agreed to pay for sex.

● Pete C. Kramer, 48, of Canfield, who was charged last month in Columbiana County with engaging in prostitution and possession of criminal tools after he allegedly agreed to pay for sex in Columbiana County.

● James Lemmon, 41, of Mingo Junction, who was charged last month in Columbiana County with engaging in prostitution, possession of criminal tools, drug trafficking and attempted tampering with evidence.
