Youngstown man charged with making terroristic threats
YOUNGSTOWN — Charles Brewer, of McGuffey Road, was arraigned Wednesday in Youngstown Municipal Court on a felony charge of making terroristic threats for allegedly threatening to blow up Youngstown City Hall after calling about a rodent problem in his neighborhood.
An off-duty police officer answering phones at City Hall temporarily while working security there reported to the police department that a parks department clerk advised her that Brewer, 64, had made threats to “Blow up City Hall and fill body bags with government officials” if someone did not get back in touch with him by Tuesday. Brewer called Nov. 29.
The report states that Brewer called to complain about a rodent infestation at his house in the 2800 block of McGuffey Road, saying the problem seems to have originated at a home near his.
He said he has been complaining about the problem for six months and he was tired of nothing being done. He said he also is afraid that his children will be bitten by “these rats.”
Brewer also “further stated that he would gladly take off his clergy collar to handle this problem,” the report states. That is when he threatened to blow up City Hall, the report states.
Officers attempted to talk to Brewer at his home that day, but they were unable to make contact with him, the report notes.
But on Monday afternoon, police arrested Brewer on a warrant charging him with making terroristic threats. He was taken to the Mahoning County jail.
If he is convicted, Brewer could get about three years in prison. He has been in the county jail since Monday, according to jail records.
