Family donates $50K to Kilcawley campaign
YOUNGSTOWN — Greg and Alice Greenwood have made a $50,000 donation to the Kilcawley: Centered on the Future campaign at Youngstown State University.
This gift is part of a larger $150,000 contribution from the Greenwoods to support two key initiatives at YSU, reflecting their deep commitment to enhancing the university’s educational environment and student experience.
The $50,000 donation will directly support the renovation and modernization of Kilcawley Center, the heart of student life at YSU.
This ongoing Kilcawley: Centered on the Future campaign aims to create innovative, collaborative spaces for students, fostering an environment of creativity and community-building.
The Greenwoods’ contribution will play a pivotal role in ensuring Kilcawley Center remains a vibrant hub for generations of students to come.
“We are incredibly grateful to Greg and Alice Greenwood for their continued support of YSU,” said YSU President Bill Johnson. “This generous donation will help make Kilcawley Center an even more dynamic and welcoming place for our students, providing them with the spaces they need to thrive both academically and socially.”
In addition to their $50,000 gift to the Kilcawley Center campaign, the Greenwoods also have committed $100,000 to support renovations at the Beeghly Center. Their contribution to Beeghly honors Greg Greenwood’s longtime administrative assistant, Sperry Rongone, by naming the “Sperry Rongone Women’s Basketball Lounge” in her honor.
The Greenwoods are also recognized for their longstanding support of YSU through two significant endowments: the Greg and Alice Greenwood STEM Scholarship Endowment and the Greg and Alice Greenwood Endowment for the Excellence Training Center.
In 2021, they also donated a Chevy Bolt to YSU, which is used by staff during visits to local high schools and businesses to promote YSU’s academic programs.
Through their total giving of $551,658, the Greenwoods have achieved membership in YSU’s 1908 Society, one of the university’s most prestigious giving circles. Their contributions have had a lasting impact on the university, helping to enrich the student experience and foster academic excellence.
