Girard woman pleads not guilty to domestic violence charge
LIBERTY — A Girard woman pleaded not guilty to a domestic violence charge at her arraignment Friday.
Mindy Nicholas, 42, was charged after being arrested by Liberty police Thursday afternoon.
According to the police report, officers were dispatched to a Shady Lane residence regarding an unwanted person. Nicholas, the caller, told dispatchers she wanted officers to remove a man.
Officers arrived and were met by her at the house’s garage door as the man and her son left the house. The man, who had several deep lacerations on his neck’s left side and redness in his left ear, explained to officers that Nicholas hadn’t been at the house for nearly a week and had recently returned with him, the report states.
He told officers Nicholas was “off her meds” and acting “crazy,” telling them she would take his Jeep without permission and drive throughout the night. He said he attempted to joke with Nicholas, which normally helps her mood, but while walking down the building’s hallway she elbowed him and struck his left ear, nearly ripping his earring out.
He later told officers that he attempted to put her into a seated position, which resulted in her grabbing his neck without letting go, then digging her fingernails into it. He attempted to stop Nicholas.
Her son, who also wasn’t at the house for a week, attested to the mental health concerns, confirming that joking with Nicholas was the only way to calm her down.
The report states officers arrested Nicholas because of the consistent testimonies from the man and her son, as well as the physical marks and injuries on the man.
Nicholas is set to appear in Girard Municipal Court for a pretrial hearing Jan. 30, court records show.
