Hubbard eyes potential resurfacing projects

HUBBARD — City residents soon could see an improvement in the quality of their streets.

City council on Tuesday approved authorizing the city administration to bid on the 2025 street resurfacing program through the Trumbull County Engineer’s Office.

Councilman Jerome Crowe, D-at Large, who oversees the city’s streets and sidewalks, explained to residents and council members during his report that the streets being bumpy because of the freezing and thawing from the winter season has created “a lot of concern” for the street department, which is responsible for maintaining the 36 miles of road within the community.

Because of the weather conditions, Crowe said he expects road workers to be doing a lot of patching this spring, which resulted in his decision to propose seeking the bid on the program.

Crowe provided a copy of the city’s 2024 pavement assessment for council members to help understand the state of things.

“It’s a very good read for any of you who want to understand how the MS Consultants decides which streets are the worst,” Crowe said.

He said he’s going to plan a street committee meeting in February to select some streets for paving — in addition to the ones they already have planned — for submission to the county engineer’s office.

Crowe said the committee is made up of Councilman Ryan Hallapy, D-at Large, and Councilwoman Cathy Cummings, D-4th Ward, who was not present.

Starting at $2.99/week.
