Paul J. Holovatick 1926-2025

POLAND — Mr. Paul J. Holovatick, 98, passed away Wednesday morning, Jan. 8, 2025, at Hospice House, surrounded by his loving family.

Paul was born the son of Vascil and Anna Sopkovich Holovatyk and was raised in Campbell. He married Margaret Leach on Feb. 13, 1961, and together they raised a beautiful family.

He was a WWII veteran, serving with the United States Army. He was employed by Youngstown Sheet & Tube and also worked construction before owning and operating Youngstown United Music.

Paul was an avid lover of sweets, especially Handel’s White House cherry ice cream and cherry turnovers from the Amish Marketplace. He could often be found spending his afternoons in his recliner watching “Gunsmoke.” When he wasn’t relaxing and watching his favorite show, he was a social butterfly and enjoyed having lunch with friends and sharing stories of the past.

Paul loved his outings to Crickets, where he would spend his afternoon with their regulars discussing the lottery, enjoying a Heineken, having lunch and sharing stories of the good old days.

He was loved by all and could make you laugh without even trying. He always had the attention of everyone in the room and was loved by so many; he was a true icon and legend of his time.

Paul loved spending time with his family; there wasn’t a holiday or family outing that he did not attend. He was always around for Sunday pasta dinner.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his four children, Lynda (Marty) Clay, Donald P. (Christine) Holovatick Sr., Robert W. Holovatick and Kimberly (Steve) Blasko; nine grandchildren, William P. Mamounis Jr., Gust J. Mamounis, Paul J. Mamounis, Amanda Lynn (Dean) Piatt, Donald P. Holovatick Jr., Shenee Mantz, Kendra Mantz, Kirtland Holovatick and Liddia Holovatick; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, who passed Nov. 15, 2013; his son, Paul J. Holovatick Jr.; sister, Mary Holovatyk; and two brothers, John Holovatyk and Michael Holowatuk.

Family and friends may pay their respects 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, 2025, at Rossi Brothers & Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave., Boardman.
